INTRAUTERINE ADHESIONS

Intrauterine adhsesions are also knowm as synechiae or as Ashermans syndrome

Intrauterine adhesions can occur following:

-    Elective medical termination of pregnancy

-    Postpartum curretage

-    Curettage for missed abortion

-    Curettage for vesicular mole

-    Curettage after caesarean section

-    Abdominal/Hysteroscopic myomectomy

-    Other uterine surgeries

-    Genital tuberculosis

Presenting symptoms:

-    Menstrual disorders

-    Infertility

-    Recurrent pregnancy loss

Hysteroscopy is useful for the confirmation of diagnosis as well as for treatment.

Normal cyclical menses can be restored n 70-90% of women with intrauterine adhesions. Reported conceptio and term delivery rates after successful treatment have ranged between 25 and 70%..
